It took a brave little girl named Ruby Bridges, protected by federal marshals and surrounded by an angry mob, to desegregate William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans in 1960.
 It took the nation’s first bus boycott in Baton Rouge in 1953 to be a model for the Montgomery Bus Boycott a few years later.
 It took a grueling, 105-mile march from Bogalusa to the State Capitol in 1967 to raise awareness of discriminatory hiring practices.
